With the rise of smartphones leading to the majority of phone boxes throughout the UK being made redundant, BT has taken the decision to remove or repurpose the bulk of its kiosks.
Powertek were appointed by BT in 2016 to oversee the removal of the first phase of 25,000 telephone boxes. The success of the project has led to BT awarding Powertek several other contracts including the contract for subsequent phases thereafter of the telephone kiosk removal programme.
Since the project’s inception, Powertek has provided decommissioning, civil engineering and cabling services from initial surveys to full decommissioning and removals.
This has been a massive project, spanning over 4 years and working alongside every council and Distribution Network Operator in the UK. Surveyors, cable jointing teams, removal lorries and reinstatement teams have been designated from Lands End to the Shetland Islands and everywhere in between.
The success of this project has led to additional work with BT including the installation of BT InLinks throughout the UK.
